One of the aspects of village life is the lack of anonymity. Everyone knows much about all their neighbours. While some are comfortable with this, others can find it oppressive and even suffocating. However it is this aspect of rural life that provides an opportunity for mission that urban Christians can only dream of.
This is exactly the kind of community in which Jesus grew up. Nazareth probably had no more than 500 residents and nearby Capernaum no more than 1,500. He was a village lad and knows what life is like where you live. Since neither peronal liives nor church life can be hidden, it is important that both reveal God's character.
